Clinical Laboratory
Section:
Is the only laboratory in the Institute that is open for 24 hours
and manned by Medical technologists on 12-hour shift. Hematology
examinations done include CBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelet
count, retic count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, red cell count,
white cell count, differential count, bleeding time and clotting
time, clot retraction time, peripheral blood smear, L.E.
preparation, coagulation test like prothrombin time (protime) and
activated prothrombin time, blood indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC), clinical
microsocopy like urinalysis and body fluid examination like CSF cell
count and differential count as well as specific gravity. In
addition, after office hours, on weekends and holidays, when other
laboratory of the Institute have closed for the day, the Clinical
Laboratory does fecalysis, biochemistry, ABG determination,
microbial culture & gram staining. It also serves as a clearing
and receiving laboratory. All specimens that are to be done on other
research laboratories pass through the Clinical Laboratory. In
addition to the above-mentioned services, the staff participate in
almost all the researches in the Institute.
