To complement the strength of RITMs major thrusts and programs, the New Tropical
Medicine Foundation Inc., was organized on July 15, 1987. A non-stock, non-profit private
organization, the Foundation was established to promote research and manpower development,
to strengthen institutional and intersectoral linkages and to facilitate community
development through health promotion.
To achieve this goal, the Foundation undertakes the following
activities: 1) receives and administers grants-in-aid, monies from endowments and
donations, and income from its operation intended for research on tropical and/or
infectious diseases; 2) sponsors or administers career grants, travel grants, attendance
in scientific meetings, workshops and other forms of training programs for the development
of health personnel and community health workers; 3) assist in the establishment or
implementation of facilities and services within the health care delivery system; 4)
assists in the implementation of programs on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and
control of infectious and/or tropical diseases which are of major public health
importance; and 5) assists in the implementation of collaborative projects among
health-related agencies for purposes of research, training and public service.
